Thank you, ChelseaCOFFEE WITH WARREN, with Warren Harbeck |
Sixteen months ago, Chelsea Kemp joined the Cochrane Eagle team as editor. And she’s done a fantastic job. But sadly, with this week’s issue she bids farewell, as she heads off to her new job in Manitoba as a journalist with the Brandon Sun. There are many reasons I’ve enjoyed working with Chelsea, but one in particular caught my eye from her very first week with us: her photographic love affair with animals. For this week’s column I’d like to feature a few of her amazing images. “I truly love visiting with wildlife in the area,” Chelsea says. For example, there’s this photo she took of a deer and magpie enjoying each other’s company. “I enjoyed the idea they were buddies just hanging out for a Sunday stroll,” she says. “It was one of the first wildlife photos I captured in Cochrane.” Then there’s her photo of a smiling moose. “I spent countless hours cruising around trying to find moose in Rocky View County. Any free moments I had were on the road hoping to catch a glimpse. The moose photo is great because it was literally months of work and waiting and it looks like he is grinning, like he was waiting for me to stop by for a visit.” There are also the bears, bees, wolfhounds and cattle, such as this snow-crowned bovine beauty she spotted while visiting on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. “My favourite stories come out of Stoney, so it seems fitting one of my favourite photos came out of the Nation,” she says. “Cochrane is an awesome community where we get the best of both worlds. It is bittersweet leaving the Eagle to move to Brandon, but it is also neat, because the Brandon Sun is where Eagle founder Jack Tennant cut his teeth as a journalist.” Thank you, Chelsea. We will miss you.
